As my son, Ollie, nine, jumped around in the snow with his brothers, William, 12, and Harry, seven, I just about managed to whip off his beloved Norwich City football cap, revealing a downy crop of newly-grown brown hair, before he posed for a photo with Father Christmas.

It didn’t matter that the ‘snow’ had been pumped into the hall by a machine or that it was a hot, sunny July day – or that Santa was wearing a Hawaiian shirt, flip-flops and sunglasses – all that mattered was that Ollie was happy. Every time I look at the photo of him smiling, I’m reminded of what a fighter my son is.
