It’s been a challenging time. So it’s no surprise that 37%* of Brits feel their energy levels are the lowest they’ve ever been. To top it off, Christmas is on the horizon and for many of us that means even more on our plate. Feeling drained just thinking about it? You’re not alone. If your to-do list is never-ending and you’re struggling to cope, you could be facing burnout.
So, what exactly is it? ‘The first symptom is that you feel exhausted all the time,’ says psychologist Dr Meg Arroll**. While largely associated with overworking, resulting in ‘reduced performance and negative feelings about your job’, it can affect other areas of your life, too. ‘Burnout will also have an impact on your home and social life,’ says occupational psychologist Kate Keenan. ‘It’s associated with a variety of physical ailments and can cause anxiety, insomnia and depression.’
