It’s a fairytale ending for the charming prince and his sweetheart.
From the moment they first laid eyes on each other, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle vowed to do things their way. And their way it was when the unlikely soulmates made history in a magical wedding at Windsor Castle on Saturday.
The star-studded ceremony embraced both royal tradition and American influence, and included heartfelt vows, uplifting gospel music and a wonderfully diverse congregation – the likes of which has never been seen before at a royal wedding.
An emotional Harry fought back tears as he promised to spend his life with his stunning Californian bride, with the pair – now known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – determinedly putting the pre-wedding drama and scandal behind them as they pledged their love.
Their wondrous day began soon after 9am in the charming town of Windsor, where thousands of fans had camped out to ensure a good view of the royal groom and his glamorous bride. With clear blue skies and glorious sunshine, it was the perfect day for a perfect wedding. Cheers rang out as the guests – an exciting mix of royals, film stars, sports icons, musicians and the couple’s closest friends –began to filter in, waving and smiling as they made their way down the aptly named Long Walk to St George’s Chapel, its grand entranceway adorned with a spectacular floral arch.
But it was the arrival of the groom himself with his best man and big brother Prince William – both resplendent in the frockcoat uniform of the Blues and Royals – that elicited the biggest cheers from the excited crowds. The former royal rebel, whose whirlwind romance with the actress has captured the public’s imagination since it was first revealed in 2016, couldn’t disguise his nerves, smiling anxiously at delighted fans, who had come from far and wide to share in his joy.
