The duchess blossoms on tour with Harry
It was thought to be the Duchess of Sussex’s final public appearance before she becomes a mum, but after the heavy criticism of her lavish New York baby shower, Meghan was determined to prove she wasn’t shirking her duties on her three-day visit to Morocco with husband Prince Harry.
After touching down in Casablanca in a scarlet Valentino dress, its colour a nod to their host nation’s flag, the duchess, 37, joined her hubby, 34, at a school for girls in Asni, high in the Atlas Mountains, where student Samira Ouaddi applied a floral henna tattoo on her left arm. “It’s a traditional practice for pregnant women to bring luck for the baby,” tells Samira, 17.
Meghan impressed with her fluent French and the royal pair kidded around with students and staff. When the prince was congratulated on the upcoming arrival, he jokingly asked his wife, “Wait, you’re pregnant?” Meghan replied, “Surprise!” To which Harry quipped, “Is it mine?”
That evening, in the capital of Rabat, the duchess, in a bespoke Dior kaftan, took a more serious tone, delivering a stirring feminist speech to female businesswomen gathered at the British embassy. “Women have to challenge everywhere in the world,” she declared.
The next day, Meghan and Harry watched a group of underprivileged kids whip up pancakes from her cookbook Together, then tasted traditional pastilla – a meat pie made from pigeon – baked by MasterChef Morocco host Moha Fedal, which the duchess declared to be “delicious”.
