Planning a wedding can be stressful at the best of times, without the added panic of a pandemic.
But for Black Caps cricketer Matt Henry and Newshub reporter Holly Carran, tying the knot in level 2 went almost without a hitch.
Speaking to Woman’s Day from luxurious Millbrook Resort in Arrowtown, where the Christchurch lovebirds exchanged vows, the journalist says the stunning scenery of the Remarkables stopped them stressing out too much.
“Whenever I felt overwhelmed by all those little jobs, I just looked around at the mountains, took a deep breath and thought, ‘The air is fresh and life is good.’ It reminded me what was important and why we were doing this.”
After eight years together, Canterbury bowler Matt, who has represented New Zealand since 2014, popped the question to Holly at the same resort back in January, while en route to visit her family in Central Otago.
The blonde beauty tells us, “I thought we were heading into Queenstown for dinner, but we did a quick trip around Millbrook beforehand because I grew up in Arrowtown but hadn’t been back for a few years. We were driving around in a golf buggy and I saw a picnic set up in the distance. I thought, ‘What a beautiful spot – those lucky people!’ But it turned out it was all for us. I burst into tears. Matt executed it perfectly.”
Keen to get married in Otago in spring to make the most of the area’s famous blossoms, the pair started their wedding prep almost immediately.
