She’s poised to become queen when her husband Prince Charles eventually ascends the throne, but amid simmering tensions at the palace and continued public unpopularity, the Duchess of Cornwall is reportedly considering walking away from the royal family altogether.

On a visit to London’s Garden Museum recently, Camilla, 70, took the extraordinary step of publicly confessing she’d rather be pottering around in her garden than performing her official duties. Inspecting a display of flowers, the duchess declared, “I’d be here all day given half the chance. Joking apart, I’d do this every day if I could.”

Not long afterwards, a palace insider claimed that Camilla was “edging towards retirement for the sake of both her mental and physical health”, hinting that the duchess’ popularity had plummeted within the palace walls.
