MARKET-READY RECRUITMENT HUNT

The rapidly evolving automotive industry is witnessing novel innovations at a fast pace. To tackle these dynamic challenges, the industry requires job-ready human resources. Prajakta Chavan Rane finds out the industry expectations.
MARKET-READY RECRUITMENT HUNT

With newer technologies, applications, and alternate fuel vehicles entering the fast-evolving Indian automotive sector, Auto Component makers' expectations from the human resources are also transforming. While big players are claimed to not face problems in imparting training to the new recruits, the bigger challenge for such enterprises is the selection of the resource with the right skillset. The industry is especially facing a scarcity of product designers, as most of these professionals prefer to work for European or US firms as per claims. "We do not face manpower issues on the technical front, because of the in-house training system, where we hire qualified people with no industry experience and train them on our shop floor. However, there is a shortage of product design engineers, as the Indian market has witnessed exponential growth in the past few years," states Nandakumar P, Director of OMG Auto Mould Pvt Ltd. "Suddenly, there is a demand for product designers who prefer to work for the European or US market as they get paid in USD from them. As a result, domestic players face some problems," he mentioned.

OMG Auto Moulds, part of the OM Galaxy Group, specialises in designing and manufacturing moulds for the automotive and white goods industries. It boasts of a competent team and infrastructure, to cater to the industry for manufacturing and supply of small to large size injection moulds, with systematic project management. The company has delivered complex moulds to reputed tier 1s and OEMs. Their elite customer list includes the likes of Piaggio, Supreme, Sundaram Auto, Godrej, Eicher, TACO, and Ashok Leyland. While the major companies such as OMG Auto has a vast infrastructure comprising four tool rooms, to ensure that their employees remain updated and keep climbing the internal growth ladder, the struggle of Micro and Small-Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) is a different ball game altogether.
