Married At First Sight favourite Marilyse Corrigan has opened her heart for the first time since her shock split from fellow MAFS star Matt Murray. The 38-year-old mother-of-two, who featured in 2021’s explosive series, tells new how she grew apart from Matt, 33, after she felt he became too intense and “questioning”.
“Matt likes to have all of your attention when you’re in a relationship with him. He was needy and couldn’t understand why I couldn’t be his all the time,” she explains. “I wouldn’t call them red flags, but there were times when he’d question me about silly things – things that were unnecessary – and then question me about them again. So I started feeling on edge around him.”
Just weeks after telling new of their plans to one day marry and have kids together, Marilyse confirmed rumours of their split on Instagram, saying she wished Matt “all the best for his future”.
But having had time to reflect on their brief romance, Marilyse believes she’d turned a blind eye to Matt’s questionable behaviour, which sometimes left her feeling like she was in the wrong.
“I’d worn his favourite perfume one day and then he came home from work and questioned me two or three times about when I’d sprayed it and why. He wouldn’t let it go,” she says. “And once, when I was getting ready to go on a night out with my friends, I told him I didn’t know what to wear. Matt told me it shouldn’t matter what I wear, because I wasn’t going to impress anybody.
But I want someone to help me choose what to wear so I look and feel nice – he just missed the point.”
