The modelling industry left her feeling “completely and utterly destroyed” and her high-profile split with Bradley Cooper was followed by a cloud of depression, so Suki Waterhouse knows all about the dark side of fame.
Now, the former catwalk star, 31, is channelling all of that heartbreak into her biggest acting role yet, playing keyboard queen Karen Sirko in glossy new drama Daisy Jones & The Six on Prime Video.
The series, which also stars Elvis Presley’s granddaughter Riley Keough and The Hunger Games actor Sam Claflin as charismatic lead singers Daisy Jones and Billy Dunne, is about the rise and fall of a fictional band in the 1970s. And while Ski has been happily dating Batman superstar Robert Pattinson since 2018, she is now careful not to live her life in the public eye.
The show is based on the best-selling book of the same name by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Suki says reading Reid’s novel and filming this role was cathartic for her.
“I could tell that Taylor Jenkins Reid had such a love and a passion for not why people are famous but what it’s actually like to live that life…” explains Suki.
“We’re so used to projecting onto famous rock stars or actors but she looks at what it’s actually like to be inside of it. I was left with a very full but aching heart after reading the book.”
The story of Daisy Jones & The Six is inspired by the tangled love lives and stratospheric career of Fleetwood Mac – and Suki was desperate to land a role and leave modelling behind forever.
