<p id="1">Five long months after assaulting Chris Rock onstage at the Oscars, Will Smith has apologised for what he says was a &ldquo;confusing&rdquo;, &ldquo;shocking&rdquo; and &ldquo;fuzzy&rdquo; act of violence. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself,&rdquo; the actor explained in the five-minute clip, which prominently featured a bottle of branded water from the company started by his son, Jaden. &ldquo;I&rsquo;m human,&rdquo; he says. &ldquo;I made a mistake and I&rsquo;m trying not to think of myself as a piece of s--t.&rdquo; He added, &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve reached out to Chris and the message that came back is he&rsquo;s not ready to talk, and when he is, he will reach out so I will say to you, &lsquo;Chris, I apologise to you. My behaviour was unacceptable and I&rsquo;m here whenever you&rsquo;re ready to talk.&rsquo;&rdquo;</p>

<p id="2">To fans who felt let down by his behaviour, Smith said, &ldquo;I promise you I am deeply devoted and committed to putting light and love and joy into the world. And if you hang on, I promise we&rsquo;ll be able to be friends again.&rdquo; But others aren&rsquo;t loving Smith&rsquo;s version of an apology, accusing him of playing the victim while also throwing in some self-promotion.</p>

<p id="3">While it doesn&rsquo;t seem like Rock will &ldquo;reach out&rdquo; any time soon, he is getting some extra material out of it for his stand-up shows. The former <em>Saturday Night Live</em> star didn&rsquo;t directly address the YouTube apology, but told an Atlanta crowd, &ldquo;If everybody claims to be a victim, nobody will hear the real victims. Anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face.&rdquo; Ouch!</p>
