Apple has seemingly pointed a A shrinking ray at its smallest А desktop Mac, reducing its size from the 19.7cm square of the previous generation to just 12.7cm now - or just 5-inches square in old money. But it's not just smaller, it's been comprehensively redesigned, looking more akin to its stablemate, the Mac Studio, complete with two 2x USB-C ports on the front, plus a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the rear now gets three Thunderbolt 4 ports on the M4 model and three Thunderbolt 5 ports on the M4 Pro. Both versions also offer an HDMI 2.1 port and Gigabit Ethernet (upgradeable to 10Gb Ethernet for an extra £100). Luckily, the Mac mini remains as affordable as it ever has with prices starting at just £599 for an entry-level model version equipped with a 10-core CPU/10-core GPU M4 chip, 16GB of unified memory and 256GB of storage. Moving up to the next tier at £799 gives you 512GB of storage, while spending £999 increases the memory to 24GB.<img src="https://cdn.magzter.com/1387536549/1731383413/articles/3C6ffATFN1731490429297/FJG6k9hPn1731490553769.jpg" alt="image">After that, you enter high-end territory with the £1,399 Mac mini getting a 12-core CPU/16-core GPU M4 Pro chip, 24GB of unified memory and 512GB of storage, but the options don't end there. Increasing the spec to a 14-core CPU/20-core GPU M4 Pro will cost you an extra £200, moving up to 64GB of memory will set you back an extra £600, while increasing the storage to 8TB costs a guffaw5 inducing £2,400, and you'd still need to add your own monitor, mouse or trackpad as well as a keyboard - the new Mac mini doesn't include any of its own by default.Small wonderThe new Mac mini is a thing of wonder barely bigger than an Apple TV 4K (which measures 9.7cm square), it packs an incredible amount of power into its tiny aluminium body, which has vents in its foot to allow for passthrough cooling, dispensing with the need for a fan.The new Mac mini is also the first ever Mac to be carbon neutral, featuring 100% recycled aluminium, 100% recycled gold and 100% recycled rare earth metals. It's also made using 100% renewable energy and has a 50% recycled content overall. And that's despite the fact that the new Mac mini offers up to 6x the performance of the best-selling Intel Core i7-equipped PC, even with its incredibly small size.
