An intriguing mystery involving a man’s dying words is at the heart of Hugh Laurie’s lavish adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?
The three-part ITV1 series, set in the 1930s, begins as intrepid vicar’s son and ex-naval officer Bobby Jones (Will Poulter) comes across a stranger who seems to have fallen from a Welsh cliff. But Bobby is stunned when the man utters the words, ‘Why didn’t they ask Evans?’ before succumbing to his injuries.
To unravel the puzzle, Bobby joins forces with his spirited childhood friend Lady Frankie Derwent (Lucy Boynton), the daughter of eccentric Lord and Lady Marcham (Jim Broadbent and Dame Emma Thompson).
