BIG NIGHT OF MUSICALS
NEW SATURDAY, 7.50PM, BBC1
The stage is set, the atmosphere is electric and it's jazz hands at the ready as TV Times takes a seat among the 12,000-strong crowd at Manchester Arena for this year's star-spangled Big Night of Musicals.
After making its debut last year, the glitzy event - which took place in February and will air on BBC1 this Saturday again sees compère Jason Manford bring together the crème de la crème of West End shows and touring productions for a toe-tapping extravaganza.
As everyone gets on their feet for an epic opening performance from the cast of We Will Rock You, so begins a spectacular showcase featuring 13 incredible acts (see our guide, below).
Were you thrilled to be hosting this celebration for a second year?
It’s a real privilege to be asked again, but it’s a hard job. There’s a 12,000-strong crowd, a 40- piece orchestra, someone talking into my ear, plus lots of divas and egos – hopefully I’ve shown I can juggle all those without getting too flummoxed!
Manchester feels like my crowd. To walk out on to a stage in your home city in front of thousands of people, knowing you’ve got an amazing show for them, was exciting.
Which performances stood out for you?
The Bodyguard – it’s a big song and the response she got moved her to tears.
Yes, you could hear a pin drop in the arena during Melody’s performance…
