SARAH BEENY VS CANCER
NEW MONDAY, 9PM, C4 FACTUAL
When Sarah Beeny announced earlier this year that she had been given the all-clear by doctors following her breast- cancer diagnosis in August 2022, she was inundated with supportive messages from family, friends and fans.
It was an incredibly emotional moment for the property expert, whose mum, Ann, died of the disease at the age of 39. Sarah was just 10 years old at the time, and it was an experience that left her fearing her time could be similarly cut tragically short.
‘I think that’s why I’ve packed so much into my life, because I genuinely wasn’t sure I’d live past 39,’ says Sarah, 51, as TV Times joins her for an exclusive video interview. ‘My main role model as a girl, my mother, was someone who died of breast cancer, and I imagined that would happen to me.’
Now, in a one-off documentary for C4, Sarah Beeny Vs Cancer, the presenter will explore her mum’s story in more detail while also looking at the impact her own breast-cancer diagnosis has had on her and those closest to her, with filming starting on her first day of treatment.
Here, Sarah tells us more…
Why did you want to make this programme, Sarah?
I had a fear of breast cancer that was out of proportion to the risk of dying from it. That doesn’t mean that no one does, but there’s a very good chance you won’t – and the earlier you get diagnosed, the more likely you are to fully recover.
