As the sun beats down on the tarmac, aircrew and tourists come and go in the hustle and bustle outside Spain’s Girona Airport. Huddled under a gazebo in some much-needed shade, TV Times is on set for Alibi’s sun-kissed new drama The Diplomat, whose star Sophie Rundle strolls into shot looking cool in a burnt-orange sundress and sandals.
The diplomat of the title, Barcelona-based British consul Laura Simmonds, spends much of her time helping holidaymakers and expats who are in trouble. But today, she’s meeting Colin Sutherland (Danny Sapani), the father of a young British barman found dead after a jet-ski accident, who suspects foul play.
