CASH IN THE ATTIC
NEW MON-FRI, 6PM, CHANNEL 5 FACTUAL
Hidden treasures are set to sparkle once again as TV gem Cash in the Attic returns to our screens after a 10-year hiatus on a brand-new home, Channel 5.
The show originally aired on BBC1 from 2002 to 2012, and the new 40-part run will help more ordinary members of the public rummage around their abodes for antiques before taking the finds to auction.
Jules Hudson is back at the helm, alongside new presenter Chris Kamara, with them taking it in turns to host the episodes.
TV Times caught up with Jules, 52, to find out more about the reboot - and the items he took a shine to...
Were you pleased to be asked to front this revival?
I was absolutely delighted! I'd hosted a few of the original celebrity versions [on BBC1], and with my background in archaeology and passion for history, I've always loved learning the story of 'stuff. The social history you find in antiques and collectables never ceases to fascinate me.
Have there been any changes made to the show's format?
The premise is exactly the same as it was. Chris and I help people find things in their homes that they can hopefully sell at auction to raise money for something that means a lot to them.
What's changed most is the auctions themselves. In the old days, the film crew would be in a crowded auction room, but technology now means a lot of bids are online. So the rooms are emptier but there's a wider reach - we've had bidders from Australia, North America, and all over Europe.
You mentioned the contributors are trying to raise funds for something special. Can you tell us more?
