GOOD OMENS

FROM FRIDAY 28 JULY, PRIME VIDEO

FANTASY DRAMA

They have bickered their way through many a video call in acclaimed sitcom Staged, and now Michael Sheen and David Tennant are back for more friendly banter – this time on a spiritual plane – in the second season of Prime Video’s fantasy epic Good Omens.

The first run, based on the 1990 novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, centred on the unlikely bond between prissy angel and bookshop owner Aziraphale (played by Michael) and playboy demon Crowley (David), as they teamed up to avert Armageddon.

In the new six-parter, co-written by Neil, we find Aziraphale and Crowley lying low on Earth and trying to avoid their respective authorities in Heaven and Hell after causing controversy by collaborating with each other.

‘Aziraphale and Crowley have lost their jobs,’ says David, 52. ‘For Crowley, although officially in season one he worked “downstairs”, he was always pretty independent. But being jobless, he now relies on Aziraphale by necessity and circumstance.’

A WORRYING PROPHECY

Trouble soon comes calling again, however, when Aziraphale’s ex-boss, archangel Gabriel (Mad Men’s Jon Hamm), turns up in his Soho bookshop, naked and confused.

Despite having no idea about his own identity, Gabriel claims something terrible is going to happen. Aziraphale calls on Crowley to help him learn more and their journey to find the truth features flashbacks to their pasts, from biblical days to 19thcentury Edinburgh and the London Blitz.
