AS IS often the case in high-profile splits, no one saw it coming. Everything shimmered and shone on the surface – they were super successful , devoted parents and seemingly very much in love. They glowed on the red carpet, she tall and striking with legs for days, he edgy and handsome with his groomed eyebrows and designer stubble.
Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas seemed to be making it work, sharing childcare duties while making their way in the world.
But the Game of Thrones star and the Jonas brother are no more. “Irretrievably broken” is what Joe called the marriage in his divorce filing – and you don’t get more final than that.
A finite line has been drawn under what appeared to be a fairytale union of the cool and the chic and the pair asked for privacy as they dealt with it all.
Yet details have emerged of what went wrong and, if those in Joe’s camp are to be believed, trouble has been brewing for a while.
Divorce was a last resort for the singer, one pal says.
“He fought hard to save things. He never wanted to break up his family, but he had to take what he felt was the best course of action for his daughters.
“An unhappy home isn’t a home and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year. It just kept building and Joe finally reached a point where he felt he’d exhausted all options to salvage the marriage.”
He has reportedly hired powerhouse celebrity attorney Tom Sasser, who handled Tiger Woods’ divorce, and is asking for shared custody of three-year-old Willa and their 14-month-old daughter referred to in divorce papers as DJ.
