This generous weekender on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula would do the Kennedy clan proud. With echoes of the Hamptons and Cape Cod - think weatherboards, attic gables, pitched slate roofs, shutters and sash windows effortlessly delivers elegant holidays imbued with sunshine and sea air for three generations of one family.
Designed by architects Stephen Akehurst & Associates for another clan in 2014, the home had long been on the current owners' wishlist. They had admired its classic Hamptons underpinnings and, coincidentally, Stephen had crafted their Melbourne home two decades earlier.
In 2020, the dream became a reality. And who better to remodel it for the new occupants the following year? "We asked Stephen to upgrade and extend the house to realise its potential," says the owner.
"We wanted three principal bedroom suites for our adult children and their partners, and two more guest bedrooms with ensuites, plus a combined games room and bunk room for four growing grandchildren." Perhaps understandably, another must was a second, more compact, living room for the owners to retreat to.
