Divorce rates around the world don’t lie. It is almost 50% that couples divorce these days, and the truth be told, many cannot afford it. FHM sat down with Charlotte Christian, the founder of Charlotte Christian Law which is the largest female-owned family law firm in the country. Over the past two years, Charlotte has become a prominent figurehead in the national family law industry and has devoted her career to defending the rights of individuals undergoing a complex separation, divorce and custody processes. We asked her all about what people can do when preparing for a divorce and what it actually costs!
What are the top reasons today that couples split?
We hear many reasons for faults in divorce, adultery, abuse, etc, but what I believe to be the biggest reason is growing apart. Couples get so caught up in their day-to-day life and forget to connect and keep their home life healthy. In some cases, the lack of communication can stem from deeper issues such as incompatibility, trust issues, or general dissatisfaction with the relationship. However, oftentimes, it is simply a matter of neglecting to make time for meaningful conversations and actively listening to one another.
It is important for couples to make communication a priority in their relationship. This means taking the time to listen and understand each other’s perspectives, expressing feelings and needs clearly, and finding ways to work through conflicts together. By improving communication, couples can strengthen their relationship and prevent small issues from becoming bigger problems.
How much, on average, in the United States does a divorce cost?
