ENERGY BILLS UP BY £149

GAS and electricity bills are to increase by £149 from October.

Regulator Ofgem set a new price cap of £1,717 a year for customers using an average amount of energy - 10% up on the current cap of £1,568.

The announcement comes shortly after 10 million OAPs were told they will no longer get winter fuel payments.

Campaigners fear this will push more households into debt and leave a stark choice between heating and eating.
