Grim discovery

THE remains of a climber who, with his partner, may have been the first to conquer Everest have been found 100 years after he vanished.

Andrew "Sandy" Irvine's foot, encased in a boot and sock with his name stitched in, was discovered by a film crew below the North Face of the mountain.

Aged 22, he and George Mallory were part of the 1924 British Everest Expedition and on June 6 the pair began the team's third summit attempt.
