PEOPLE may be misdiagnosed with high blood pressure if their arm is in the wrong position when readings are taken.

A review looked at blood pressure readings when arms were on a desk, a lap, or hung at the patient's side.

With the arm on the lap, the systolic pressure, the top number, was overestimated by 3.9mmHg.

Diastolic was up 4mmHg on average.
