KEIR Starmer has vowed to get a grip on welfare spending, sparking accusations of peddling myths about benefit claimants.

The government is about to launch a clampdown, which will result in claimants who refuse to look for work facing benefit sanctions.

The Prime Minister is declaring war on those who game the system.

But Labour veteran Diane Abbott said: "[It's] sad Starmer is peddling the benefit scrounger mythology." And campaigners have called on ministers to put forward considered plans, rather than issuing threats against disabled people.
