BEN STOKES has admitted his ODI retirement U-turn was inspired by the idea of winning another World Cup for England.

And after coming through the emotional and physical roller coaster of the Ashes in reasonable shape, he knew he had something to offer his mate Jos Buttler.

There was no pressure from Buttler or coach Matthew Mott for him to make himself available for the tournament in India.

But as he thought back to just over a year ago when he 50-over quit the game, he chuckled at just how quickly things can change when the carrot of a World Cup is dangling before you.
