TENERIFE chiefs have told Brit holidaymakers to jet off to the Dominican Republic instead.

Carlos Tarife, deputy mayor of Santa Cruz, said tourists looking to lounge around in hotels on all-inclusive breaks need to head to the Caribbean.

He is more keen to attract visitors who want to explore the local sites instead.

Mr Tarife, right, said:

"In the Canary Islands we have fewer hotel beds today than five or six years ago.
