IT WAS raining goals in North London last night as Arsenal drowned Lens in a first-half deluge to surge through to the Champions League last 16 in style.
Four goals in the space of 14 manic minutes set Mikel Arteta’s side on the way to an emphatic victory which wrapped up top spot in Group B with a game to spare.
“Six-nil to the Arsenal,” rolled around the Emirates in a twist on the traditional refrain as they finished just one short of their record score in Europe.
Talk about completing a job emphatically.
PSV Eindhoven’s comeback win against Sevilla earlier meant Arsenal still needed a point to nail down qualification for the last 16 against a side that beat them in their first meeting across the Channel.
But any sense that it might be a stressful night evaporated from the moment Kai Havertz opened the scoring. If Havertz was going to be hitting the target it had to be Arsenal’s night.
