JACK CARLIN claimed silver was "the best we could have done" after a trio of flying Dutchmen twice flattened the world record to retain their Olympic sprint title.

The Scot, Hamish Turnbull and Ed Lowe broke the British national record but the Dutch were simply unstoppable in a repeat of the Tokyo final.

Roy van den Berg, Harrie Lavreysen and Jeffrey Hoogland became the first team to smash the 41-second barrier with their time of 40.949 in the final beating the British by nearly a second.

They are the best Dutch sporting trio since Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Marco van Basten ran rings around European football.
