Sewage surge causes delay in triathlon event

PARIS Olympic chiefs caused a right stink after postponing the triathlon because the River Seine is too dangerous to swim in.

Organisers called off the men's event at 4am yesterday - hours before it was due to start - after tests showed pollution levels posed a health risk to competitors.

They blamed torrential rain that hit the opening ceremony for overwhelming the French capital's drains, which pumped raw sewage into the water.
