Still hope for summer

AN Indian summer is set to rescue Britain from the gloom after a disappointingly dull August.

Forecasters claim brighter days are coming with some areas of the country hitting 23C today.

And long-range climate models predict a welcome blast of September heat.

Temperatures are predicted to soar to a balmy 26C next weekend as an Iberian jet stream carries warm air over from Spain.

Experts say it could mark the start of warmer weather, with clear skies and sunshine on their way for most of the country.
