ST HELENS boss Paul Wellens admitted being wrong to criticise his senior players and knows he must be better.
The former Great Britain star was fuming after his injury-hit side endured a 42-6 home defeat to Super League leaders Hull KR on Saturday.
Having needed to play a raft of rookies, Wellens blamed his more experienced players in the immediate aftermath of a sobering loss.
But as Saints in danger of missing the play-offs for the first time - prepare for Sunday's huge game at Huddersfield, he has conceded he messed up.
Wellens said: "I was quite vocal after the game about senior players letting us down. On reflection, we didn't play well and the senior players didn't perform as well as they'd have liked.
