The Haridwar district quarrying officer and the police have been directed to take action on the ongoing illegal quarrying activities along the Ganga riverbed, the Haridwar administration said on Wednesday in response to the demands by Matri Sadan ashram seers.

The seers on Tuesday threatened to approach the high court if the Haridwar administration authorities do not take action against the alleged ongoing illegal quarrying at several sites along the Ganga riverbed.
District administrative officials said that they take necessary action after getting information regarding illegal quarrying as well as on impromptu basis; also surprise raids are conducted at sensitive sites.
