THE owner of a snake that slithered out of his cage and into a woman's bedroom in a nearby apartment is "beyond relieved" he was found.

Vims the California Kingsnake was discovered curled up and asleep in bed last Thursday.

The 4ft non-venomous reptile belongs to Lana Welsh. He escaped from his cage after she fed him and she admits she mistakenly did not lock it properly.

The woman whose bed Vims was napping in calmly bundled him up in a blanket and brought him to Kevin Street Garda station.

Officers then contacted Shauna Kilduff, the owner of Shauna's Pet Shop on Dublin's Capel Street, who put out a call to locate the snake's owner.

Shauna told the Irish Mirror earlier this week: "We named him Kevin after Kevin Street Garda station and we are now trying to reunite Kevin with its rightful owner.

"Proof of ownership is required. Kevin is very friendly, well fed and very healthy. He is well handled and well looked after."
