Officers were called at 11.10am on Thursday to a stretch of the River Mersey near the south Manchester beauty spot after the discovery was made.
A woman's body was then pulled from the water. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) yesterday issued an update regarding the tragedy.
They say they have still not been able to identify the woman, nor determine her cause of death. As an investigation continues, detectives are now asking the public to come forward and help them identify her.
In a statement released yesterday, GMP said the woman's approximate age and definitive ethnicity are now known.
She 'did not have any identifiable items in her pockets, or visible jewellery, they said.
