AN education watchdog has said Tavistock College has made positive progress’ to improve, following a damning report last year.
Last May, Ofsted inspectors reported that they had found many pupils were frightened” and did not feel safe”
As a result, the school was awarded an overall rating of inadequate’, which the college said was deeply disappointing” The report went on to describe the school as intimidating” and said leaders have failed to create a positive culture in which pupils respect and value one another’s differences”
It went on to state that, although school leaders had adapted their approach to behaviour management, their system was thought to not be well managed. Inspectors said this had resulted in many leaders being unaware of the extent of the school’s behaviour issues and the significant amount” of bullying that was taking place. It was reported that over time leaders had not done enough to challenge poor behaviour and assert a positive environment to allow all pupils to thrive.
