Devonport troops on mission in Baltic Sea

EXERCISE INTENDED TO STAGE DEFENCE OF SWEDISH SOIL

A ROYAL Navy amphibious task force has visited Stockholm, following exercises defending Sweden’s complex coastline from a mock invasion.

Devonport-based amphibious flagship HMS Albion led the Littoral Response Group North) LRG) into the Baltic Sea for Exercise Aurora the largest Swedish national defence exercise in more than quarter of a century.

Royal Marines undertook three amphibious landings on the Nordic nation’s coastline, with Swedish prime minister Ulf Kristersson stating that he would like the commandos in the country next year and every year:

In all, the LRG worked with hosts’ armed forces and those from Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Latvia and Lithuania, with HMS Albion also home to a number of US Marines.
