THE RBC Brewin Dolphin Mannamead Winter Tennis League is in the penultimate week and on a wet and windy evening the stoic ladies turned out and played their matches in poor conditions.

Stephanie and Caroline rallied and took the next two sets to win 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and secure their position as top of Ladies B.

Angela Wright and Caroline Abernethy played Anne Hughes and Nicky Slight in Ladies B and in a very close game won 2-6, 6-5, 6-3.

The Tennis community now bid farewell to Anne Hughes who is leaving Plymouth. We wish her well.

Val Knight and Caroline Hambly started well against Liz Gill and Pat Hexter and benefitted from an early lead, capitalising on this to take the set. Competitive second and third sets resulted in the win for Val and Caroline 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 and they take runners-up spot in Ladies B with one more game to play.

Jane Williams and Victoria Roberts have improved greatly throughout the season and were rewarded by winning the second set of their game with Chris Woodward and sub-Candy Birch, who regrouped and took the win 6-2, 2-6, 6-0.

Anne Hughes and Nicky Slight had to fight for their points against Linda Haston and Janet Butler. Great volleying from Linda and amazing court coverage from Janet was enough to take the final set but not quite enough for the match as Anne and Nicky won 6-4, 6-5, 3-6. Roanna George and Katherine Rowe started strong in a top-of-the-table clash against Fiona Crutchley and Nicky Trevaskis and despite a fightback from Fiona and Nicky, Katherine and Roanna won 6-2, 6-2, 6-5. This win puts Roanna and Katherine the most likely pair to take the division.
