CAPTAIN SEEKING MORE GOALS AFTER BREAKING HIS DUCK
CHRIS ERRINGTON
EDWARDS WANTS MORE

JOE Edwards had to wait to score his first goal of the season for Plymouth Argyle until his 45th game, but he is now hoping to get another important one in the final push for automatic promotion out of League One.

The table-topping Pilgrims have four more games to go and the next three are all at Home Park in an eight-day period, starting against 21st-placed Cambridge United tomorrow.

"We are really excited for it, it's a fantastic week ahead," said Edwards, who scored Argyle's equaliser as they came from behind to beat Shrewsbury Town 2-1 at the Montgomery Waters Meadow on Tuesday night.

Substitute Callum Wright the popped up with the winning goal in the fifth minute of added time as the Pilgrims turned a potential defeat into a vital victory.

Edwards said: "We knew it was going to be a tough game and to win it in manner made it more special. The boys were buzzing, and rightly so.

"It's not the first time we have done that this year. We know we have got that character in our team and that never-say-die attitude.

"You would like it to be earlier these goals, but we need to win these games and if we keep going right to the end then we have got every chance."

Edwards equalised with a far post header in the 68th minute after an excellent cross from Niall Ennis as he scored his first goal since the 1-0 home league win against Oxford United on April 2, 2022.

"Niall did some brilliant work down the wing and put in a fantastic ball," said the Argyle captain. "It was on a plate really.
