Hobbs so proud as patched-up Parkway continue to battle on

PLYMOUTH Parkway’s final away league match of the season ended in a 2-1 defeat at Hayes and Yeading United, but manager Lee Hobbs could not have been prouder of his depleted and injury-ravaged squad

So low were Parkway on numbers that they had only one fit substitute for the game and having played two games a month pretty much since the turn of the year, it is certainly starting to take its toll on the players, who face the daunting prospect of three games in five days to finish their season.

“I am disappointed that we didn’t come away with something,” Hobbs said. “We have come here with 12 fit men and we have given everything to the cause. We had centre forwards playing as holding midfielders, wingers playing up front and we tried everything today to get the win.

“There are players that should not even be out there and I am gutted for the boys. But I can’t be any prouder of my men, honestly.

“To pick themselves up and patch themselves up and put themselves out there and fight and scrap the way they fight and scrap – I can’t fault them. If we had two or three more fit bodies, I don’t think Hayes & Yeading get anything, I really don’t.”

Straight from the kick-off, Parkway almost made the perfect start with Ben Seymour rolling in Callum Hall whose rasping drive was pushed behind for a corner by Jack Smith in the home goal.
