Liam Connolly, now 30, appeared at Plymouth Crown Court, where he was sentenced for the offence which took place in August 2019.
The court heard that the child who cannot be identified for legal reasons - was injured by Connolly, who shook him "so violently that he became unconscious and unresponsive" according to Judge Robert Linford, who carried out the sentencing.
