Plympton pub firm had losses of £90,000

THE couple who ran Plympton’s closed The George Inn lost £90,000 when the venture went bust, official documents have revealed.

Nina and Gareth Hughes-Williams shut the 17th-century hostelry in February, after struggling with increased costs and a decline in trade.

Mr and Mrs Hughes-Williams said the business never recovered from the Covid pandemic and its lockdowns. They took a long lease on the pub and restaurant from St Austell Brewery in 2018, but their company Garnin Ltd has gone bust owing about £200,000.

The company, set up to run the pub, went into liquidation leaving only £18,000 in assets, mainly furniture and equipment. Documents filed at Companies House reveal creditors are likely to end up short of £196,093.
