BELOVED city basketball club Plymouth Raiders is coming back and could be competing as soon as September.
The club that won top honours and attracted a fervent fan base to the Pavilions pulled out of the British Basketball League (BBL) in 2021 and went into liquidation.
But now Ross Mackenzie, a former co-owner of the club, has received approval from the Government and High Court to rescue the business and will resurrect the club, most likely in the fourth tier of national basketball, Division Three of the National Basketball League (NBL).
He has outlined a plan that would see Raiders once again compete in the same famous green uniform, with the same badge – and with the return of beloved but rascally mascot Foxy. He’s even got a five-year plan to see the club rise to Division One of the NBL.
Mr Mackenzie, a former Raiders player, said the club was too important to the city to become “a sporting footnote” and that it became “a matter of principle” to bring it back.
