A BUTCHER is hanging up his apron after working in the meat business since the day after leaving school.
Steve Brown, who has run his own butcher’s shop in Fore Street, Saltash, for 35 years, started as a butcher’s apprentice in 1977.
Now he is retiring but is handing over the business to his assistant Martin Dean, who will continue to run the shop alongside fellow butcher Graham Lapthorn.
Steve, 61, from Whitsand, said he was sad to be leaving his customers and the many friends he has made during his years in Saltash. But he is looking forward to lying in beyond 5.30am and spending more time with his wife Behanne, children Philip and Natalie and his five grandchildren.
