Thieves spoil family trips to enjoy the moor

LOCAL families have been targeted by thieves at a lay-by on Dartmoor, including people who have fled to the UK from Ukraine.

One family returned to the lay-by at Grimspound (pictured right), near Postbridge, to find their car windows smashed in and belongings stolen, after a walk last week.

Mum-of-two Tania Paine, from the South Hams village of Harberton, said there was glass ‘smashed all over’ her son’s car seat. She said ‘nothing valuable was stolen’, but she was forced to cancel and replace all of her cards, which were in a bag that was taken from her car.

Tania said she was upset at the ‘loss of little things’ her children had given her. She said: “It happened between 10.30am and 11am, with multiple cars and lots of walkers around. The glass was smashed all over my son’s car seat and the bag was in the footwell with tinted glass, so whoever did it knew what they were doing and was obviously casing cars.”
