A SEASIDE town which already holds the unenviable record as the most flooded town in England, could be under water some 60 times a year, if nothing is done about the threat.
The centre of Looe, in south-east Cornwall, floods between and four and eight times a year. The resilience of local residents, armed with sandbags and flood barriers, may well be enough to protect the town for now, but it is unlikely to be enough in years to come.
The impact of climate change, with sea levels expected to rise by over one metre during the next 100 years, means that in less than 50 years most of the town will flood more often and to a greater depth, and sandbags and flood boards will become less effective.
