In the latest round of A-level results, private school pupils were more than twice as likely to get A or A* grades as those in comprehensives or sixth form colleges, data analysis by Labour shows.
Labour wants Education Secretary Gillian Keegan to adopt its plan to end tax breaks for private schools and use the cash to recruit more teachers.
Shadow Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson said: "Instead of toadying up to private schools, she needs to start delivering better life chances and opportunities for working-class children."
Ms Keegan was last month ridiculed for saying the cost of sending a child to private school - around &pound;16,000 was the same as a family holiday abroad.
A Department for Education spokesman said: "The gap between independent schools and academies has closed compared to last year."
