Storm warning after hottest day of year recorded

SUN-WORSHIPPERS flocked to beaches yesterday to bask in Britain's record-breaking hot weather... before thunderstorm warnings rained on the parade.

The Met Office said the mercury hit 32.7C at Heathrow and 32.6C in Wisley, Surrey, making it the hottest day of the year in a record September run of six days of 30C temperatures.

But yellow warnings were issued for possible thunderstorms and floods in East Wales, Yorkshire, Lincolnshire, Manchester, Nottingham and Oxford.
