City deluged: 95mm blinding rain in 2hrs unleashes mayhem

A sudden burst of rain accompanied by heavy winds on Monday evening inundated low-lying areas and busy thoroughfares. In just two hours, Nampally recorded 94.5 mm rain, followed by 87.8 mm in LB stadium, 85 mm in Mehdipatnam and 77.5 mm in Khairatabad.

The blinding rain accompanied by heavy winds began a little after 5pm and continued for more than an hour, reducing visibility and leaving drivers struggling to negotiate flooded roads. At many places thunder and lightning jazzed up the evening sky.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for severe thunderstorm for the coming week, indicating more rains in the evening hours for the city.
