Hyderabad: Forget the 10pm deadline, pubs in Hyderabad may not play any music even through the day. Reason: None of them have the entertainment or amusement licence, upheld as mandatory by the Telangana high court for pubs to crank up the music.
Senior police officials told TOI that the system to issue licences for music was discontinued about five years ago as part of the state's ease of doing business policy.
"Currently, these licences do not exist. Now, with the court order, we are asking pubs to apply for them afresh within a stipulated time," said a Cyberabad police official.
The court's directive comes as a shocker for the industry that's grappling with the 10pm deadline. There is confusion among them about licences. "We have no clarity about how this will pan out.
