Recently, Pan Nalin became the only Gujarati to be inducted by the Academy and has been invited to join the Oscars committee by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as one of its members for 2022. Pan feels “super excited about this new beginning” and feels that his hard work has been acknowledged and honoured at the biggest stage. He feels that it will serve as an inspiration to do better work and produce films of international standards. Talking to us from the UK, Pan opens up about what this honour means to him, his journey as a filmmaker and more.
‘I DIDN’T EVEN KNOW THAT I WAS THE FIRST GUJARATI TO JOIN THE ACADEMY’
Needless to say, I am super thrilled to receive this honour and become part of one of the most powerful entertainment bodies in the world. I didn’t even know that I was the first Gujarati to achieve this feat. I was told by the Academy that there were only a handful of filmmakers from India who were inducted and being part of that coveted group feels great. The kind of work I have been doing, it has been really tough and challenging and this honour is a recognition of that hard work.
